A Tale of Two Poems (The Highs and Lows)

Poem 1:  Submissions began May of 2012.  After seven rejections, an acceptance finally came through on March 30th of this year.  Almost two years of trying it is heartening to see success.

Poem 2:  I got rejected and accepted for this poem in June of 2012.  The editor from the place that accepted it wanted edits I didn't feel comfortable with so I parted with her amicably.  After another rejection in October of that year, I received an acceptance for it in late November.  In the summer of 2013, I was notified of a buyout involving the magazine I was contracted for.  I contacted the editor and signed a contract with her.  Well, September of last year, contributors were told of financial difficulties for the new company.  Oops.  Contributors were given no notice by the guy who owns the company, just the editor who was trying desperately to help her authors.  Last month, on just a Facebook post,  the owner of the company told magazine contributors that we were free from our contracts because he wanted to focus on book publishing.

The Moral:  One never knows what's going to happen in the crazy world of publishing.  An acceptance does not a publication make and, just because someone rejects a work, doesn't mean the perfect place isn't out there waiting for it.

  1. Well, YAY for poem #1! And that certain is a fitting tale for poem #2. The publishing world is never easy to judge. Good luck with that poem though. I'm sure it will find a good home soon!

    1. Thanks.
I'm going to send out poem two again someday. I really don't know when for sure, though.
