Beyond the Cold (Poem)

Beyond the Cold

Not long for this world
We long for this world
Crunching, snow-blind on glacier isles
Hitting our knees
In hypothermia-induced worship
Desperate for the desert sun’s cruelty
Scrubbing us as raw as sand
Throats burning from screaming
We curl up as wisps from
A fire we can’t find
Burying our faces
Into one another’s necks like arctic wolves
For one last scrap of comfort

  1. Well done, though it left me feeling a sense of sadness and despair. But life is like that sometimes.

    1. Sorry about that. Next time a happy piece then, yes?
